Thanks Bert for the extra information. I wasnt mindful that both the barrel and receiver were struck While using the “WP” from the inception of using the “WP” evidence, nor which the “Oval P” didnt surface until 1908.
There definitely might be rifles with non primary barrels put on by non manufacturing unit shops but they would not be marked or obvious Until the barrel address is noticeably outside of sequence. This might counsel which the “Oval P” proof was not introduced right up until 1910. You could search here for handle types:

I think a factory with three.twenty five million square feet of ground Room had loads of room to perform all of that it required and needed to. I doubt it could of Expense all of that Substantially to go tell the experienced barrel shop dude, hey make me up this obsolete caliber On this size and for this product rifle.
Ned Schwing said in his reference e book within the Product 1890 & 1906 that Winchester began evidence marking them in 1908… I do not know if that may be correct, but will think that it is. The “WP” proof mark was utilized once the barrel and receiver have been mated, assembled and finished. This is extremely apparent within the firearms produced from the late teens by way of early 30s once the blue flaked (popped) off once the evidence was struck about the receiver body.
Commemoratives were being manufactured in relatively big quantities Custom firearms and For that reason the “rarity” generating the collector worth is grossly fewer than the original Winchester models that are becoming antique collector objects today. However, a formidable assortment of Winchester Commemoratives can be assembled for any portion of the cost of the antique models, and all in new to nearly new ailment.
